I always pick family first unless I already have a bunch of kids before inheriting, and give my wife a gift so that when the right event fires she becomes my lover. I might sometimes RP so a religious character gets Theology but a cynical one won't, a good husband gets Family and never Seduction, a dark character gets Intrigue. I almost never get good events from Intrigue, so I normally only choose it when I desperately need to increase my intrigue. Theology is also good, now it is not the only way to get Pilgrimage (societies), and it gives health. Learning is very good and I usually choose it when I'm older. As mentioned in the thread, the Hermetic society deals with that. Rulership or Business are nice but you get depressed/stressed pretty easily.

Or Hunting, but I usually choose it when I'm old and I don't want to die. If my martial isn't high enough, I might choose War. If I absolutely need more children, then Seduction is the way to go. If I need more children, Family is an option to increase fertility, it also boosts diplomacy and gives a small health bonus.

After all, the Socializer lifestyle trait is super-easy to get. I usually go Carousing first if I feel I need more diplomacy or my vassals don't love me enough.
